SOCIAL COMMITTEE

COMMITTEE CHAIR:   Tina Lavato   [email protected]

The crew at Singles on Sailboats loves to socialize and we are always up for a party! The Social Committee hosts three big shore parties (and potentially some smaller ones!) each year.

  • The DNR is our annual party at the Department of Natural Resources park on the Wye River on the Eastern Shore, and is usually held in conjunction with a weekend cruise in May. This is a fabulous setting – a beautiful site pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
  • The Anniversary Party celebrates the start of the club in 1978 with cake and a champagne toast to our present and past commodores.  And music and dancing of course!  It’s usually held in June, also as part of a weekend cruise.  This year, we celebrated at Port Annapolis and had a huge crowd.
  • The Seafood Feast is just what it sounds – all the seafood you can eat including steamed crabs! Obviously, it’s one of our most popular events each year.  It’s usually held in August on the Eastern Shore of Maryland (this year it’s at Lankford Bay Marina in Rock Hall).

The Social Committee organizes all of these events, and you can volunteer to work on just one or all of the parties. Plus you’ll get invitations to all of the committee planning meetings (did I mention that every planning meeting is a party too??) A great way to meet people!

What do we actually do?  Pretty much everything: choose a caterer and menu, hire a band or DJ, choose a theme and decorate if we want, purchase liquor and soft drinks, market the event to members, set-up, take-down, and everything in between.  If you volunteer, plan on a couple of planning meetings during the spring and early summer (usually in Annapolis), and working the day of at least one of the events.
